WASHINGTON, D.C. — Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) has released a statement congratulating Donald Trump on his election as the 47th president of the United States and calling for a renewed commitment to safeguarding fundamental freedoms.
“Congratulations to President Trump on his election as our nation’s 47th president. Our prayers are with the president, his family, and his team,” stated Kristen Waggoner, CEO, President, and General Counsel of ADF. She expressed optimism that Trump’s administration would prioritize the protection of constitutional rights, fostering an environment where “freedom and families can flourish.”
Waggoner outlined key areas where ADF hopes the new administration will act, emphasizing the urgent need to uphold free speech, address the impacts of gender ideology in public policy, and restore adherence to the rule of law.
Protecting Free Speech
Waggoner criticized the previous administration for endorsing policies that, she argued, eroded free speech rights. “The Biden-Harris administration continually embraced censorship to punish and silence dissent,” she said, citing instances such as alleged pressure on social media platforms to de-platform individuals and the characterization of parents opposing school policies as “domestic terrorists.”
She stressed the need to defend the freedom of expression as essential to democracy: “The freedom to speak our minds is the most basic test of any free society. It allows us to debate ideas, seek truth, expose lies, and ultimately prevent tyranny.” She urged the incoming administration to prioritize this God-given right, as “when free speech advances, truth advances with it.”
Challenging Gender Ideology and Protecting Parental Rights
Waggoner also urged the Trump administration to address what ADF views as harmful effects of gender ideology on federal policy and society. She expressed concerns about the impact of such policies on women, girls, and parental rights, particularly under Title IX. “We are indelibly created male and female,” she noted, emphasizing ADF’s stance that acknowledging biological reality is foundational to achieving equality and respect.
Fortifying the Rule of Law and the Judiciary
ADF’s statement called for a strong stance on protecting constitutional principles and the integrity of the judicial system. Waggoner highlighted concerns over perceived attacks on federalism, separation of powers, and the notion of court-packing, which gained traction in recent years. “Our Constitution has been durable for centuries for a reason: it is built on ideals that have safeguarded freedom for generations,” she stated.
ADF remains committed to advocating for religious freedom, free speech, parental rights, and the sanctity of life. With a presence in courtrooms and legislative spaces both domestically and globally, ADF anticipates a collaborative relationship with the new administration in advancing these freedoms.
