Washington, D.C. – November 29, 2024 – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata has expressed strong support for President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Senator Marco Rubio to serve as the next Secretary of State, calling the decision “excellent” and vital for U.S. foreign policy.
“This is one of the most important positions in the U.S. Government, and Senator Rubio is an excellent choice,” said Congresswoman Amata. “He has made foreign policy and national security a priority throughout his years in the Senate, and his understanding of global issues will be invaluable as Secretary of State.”
Amata highlighted Rubio’s unique background as the son of Cuban immigrants, noting his deep understanding of the realities of communism and his steadfast commitment to freedom. “As a son of Cuban immigrants, Senator Rubio profoundly understands the challenges posed by communist regimes, especially the importance of countering the Chinese Communist Party’s influence in the Pacific,” Amata explained. “His leadership will be crucial in strengthening U.S. diplomacy and security in the region.”
The Congresswoman also praised Rubio’s leadership in supporting legislation that impacts international religious freedom. In September, Amata voiced her support for a Rubio-sponsored bill to reauthorize the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), which was successfully passed by the House of Representatives.
“I welcome this appointment and am optimistic about what it means for U.S. policy in the Pacific and beyond,” Amata continued. “I urge the Senate to set aside partisanship and confirm this nomination swiftly, sending a strong message to the world of unity and strength in our foreign affairs.”
Senator Marco Rubio, 53, is an accomplished public servant, an attorney, and the son of Cuban immigrants. He previously served as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and is a well-known advocate for conservative values, particularly in the areas of foreign policy, national security, and human rights. A practicing Catholic, Rubio is married with four children.
The position of Secretary of State, created in 1789 during President George Washington’s administration, holds significant weight, being fourth in line for the presidency in extraordinary circumstances. The Secretary of State is responsible for leading U.S. diplomacy and overseeing foreign relations, a role crucial for shaping the nation’s international standing.
Amata concluded, “Senator Rubio’s nomination brings renewed hope for a strong and unified foreign policy, and I look forward to seeing his leadership on the world stage.”
