Lahore vigil for Salmaan Taseer attacked by a mob of religious fanatics

A mob of religious fanatics on Sunday attacked a ceremony held with respect to the martyrdom anniversary of former governor Punjab, Salman Taseer.
According to details, a ceremony was organized at Lahore’s Liberty Chowk paying tribute to Shaheed Salman Taseer on account of his martyrdom anniversary. A large number of masses from different walks of life participated in the ceremony to commemorate the slain governor of Punjab. Pakistan Peoples Party Social Media Punjab, headed by Jahanara M Wattoo, head S media Punjab along with social media team Junaid Qaiser, Syed Ashan Abbas Rizv, Mirza Awais Baig, Zeeshan Baig Shami, Mujtaba Subhani and others participated in the vigil.
As soon as the prayers were held after lighting candles in Taseer’s memory, a mob of religious extremist armed with sticks, guns and knives attacked the participants and torn apart the posters of the slain governor.
The attackers not only tortured the news men and participants at the spot, but also misbehaved with the members of the civil society and the women there.
In reaction to the incident, an case has been filed in the Gulberg police station seeking registration of an FIR against the workers of Sunni Tehreek.
Following the incident, scores of masses regathered at the Liberty Chowk and again lit candles in memory of Shaheed Salman Taseer.
