WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have introduced a resolution designating October 6-12, 2024, as “Religious Education Week.” The resolution aims to celebrate and highlight the significance of religious education and the contributions of schools and organizations dedicated to religious instruction.
“Religious education plays an important role for countless families across the country,” stated Senator Scott. “This resolution reaffirms their choice and underscores our commitment to ensuring religious schools can flourish alongside their secular counterparts. Families should have the freedom to choose how their children are educated, and religious schools provide a vital avenue for that.”
The resolution is supported by a broad coalition of senators, including John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), John Kennedy (R-La.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), James Risch (R-Idaho), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), and Todd Young (R-Ind.).
Organizations supporting the resolution include the Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty, Coalition for Jewish Values, Foundation for American Christian Education, School Time Bible Ministries, Association of Christian Schools International, Agudath Israel of America, and Catholic Education Partners Inc.
