A vigil was held Today (Monday) evening to remember Shaheed Salmaan Taseer Liberty Round about Gulberg, Lahore. Pakistan Peoples Party Punjab’s social media head and provincial leader of the PPP Ms. Jahanara M Wattoo led the vigil while other representatives of Peoples Youth Organization (PYO), Peoples Students Federation (PSF), Peoples Labour Wing, Human Rights Wing and civil society were also present there.

Ms. Jahanara M Wattoo has paid rich tributes to Salman Taseer Shaheed in her address thanked the social society and all allied wings of the PPP including Social Media Punjab, Human rights Wing, PYO, PSF and Minorities wing for bravely attending the vigil for Shaheed Salmaan Taseer. In her speech, she has paid glowing tribute to Shaheed Salmaan Taseer for his principled stance against religious extremism and fundamentalism and support for the rights of religious minorities.

She has said that we had organized the vigil on the instruction of the chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
She said that Salman Taseer was a brave man who never shied away from raising his voice for the downtrodden, the voiceless segments of the society particularly for women and minority rights.
She maintained people like Shaheed Salman Taseer stood for the rights of minorities and marginalized communities and lost his life to build an enlighten and liberal society. He had the courage to face the religious fanaticism that was prevailing in the society and has destroyed the tolerant fabric of our society.
Salman Taseer will always be remembered for his dignity, enlightenment, integrity and sacrifices for humanity, she added.

MNA Shazia Atta Marri, Barrister Amir Hassan, Asif Khan, Naseer Ahmed, Sohail Malik, Junaid Qaiser, Syed Ahsan Abbas Rizvi, Shahzaib Karim and others also spoke on the occasion and paid glowing tribute to Shaheed Salmaan Taseer.

MNA Shazia Atta Marri has said that the extremists have negative agenda and they want to impose their own thoughts at gunpoint. The PPP would not allow them to ruin the society. She has demanded that national action plan must be implemented in it true spirit, so future generation would live in a peaceful Pakistan.

The candle vigil participants were carrying banners and placards bearing inscriptions “Say No to Terrorism”, “Stay United Against Terrorism”, “Raise Your Voice Against Terrorism”, and “Dehshat Gardo Ka Jo Yar Hai Ghdar Hai Ghdar Hai”.
